Sketchbook

Paul Gauguin is one of my absolute favorite artists, specifically the work he did while living in Tahiti. I'll never forget the Gauguin Tahiti show at the MFA. I was in love! I was especially impressed that the curator decided to also exhibit many of his original drawings, photographs, and sketch books. In my eyes, this made the exhibit. We usually only get to see the finished work. But sketchbooks...to me, sketchbooks are so much more personal that the finished work itself, and it is so rare to get to see that side of the artist's world...to see the thought process...the good and bad ideas...the planning of composition and color...the hesitations...the insecurities. And these were the sketchbooks of a master. SO COOL.
Someday I'd love to curate a show at my own gallery comprised only of only artist's sketchbooks and photographs of their inspiration.Anyway...enjoy these!
